I am reevaluating all the areas of my life. I’ve been reading an online resource about life and time management and it’s been a big help to me to see the big picture of my life… my values and many roles, and all that stems from them. I created a mindmap and sent it to my hubby and he said I do have “a lot on my plate”. Here is my mindmap that shows the big picture of my life right now:
I find mind mapping very rewarding. I’m a thinker, and quite logical, and I worked as a computer programmer before I became a stay at home mom 22 years ago. So mind mapping suits me. Now that I’ve mapped out my key roles and areas of my life, I will continue the map by adding the “hot spots” or big projects that take a lot of my attention and time. This will help me to see what roles/areas I might be neglecting, or the ones I am spending too much time on. Writing this all out is something I have never done before! I am praying it will help me “see the forest” since I tend not to, because I am in the midst of the “trees”, as the saying goes. The trees are all about me and keep me busy and distracted, to where I never see the forest, or the big picture of my life and my family’s life, and whether we are focused on the right things.
The “hot spots” that take up most of my time stem from my roles as caregiver and estate manager. After my dad went to Heaven six months ago, the tasks involved in those two roles became an enormous amount of work. The areas of my life that have received the least attention are what you might guess… everything listed under “Home & Family” and “Me”. My role as photographer is new, as Carl and I are starting a new business. I dont need to add anything new, I know, but I need to work to help with our family’s finances, and this is the job I chose because it is something that I love and I can pursue it from home. It is my desire to achieve a better balance in my life, and so my goal is to include, to some degree, all of the areas listed in the above mindmap.
I pray God will show me exactly what He desires for me. I pray He will show me the way to a balanced, healthy life… spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

Are you having trouble finding balance in your life? If you are in the midst of a life emergency as I was nine months ago, taking care of my dying father with dementia and autistic/bipolar sister, it may be impossible to find balance. Sometimes in life you just hang on and try to keep your head above water. Thankfully those times don’t last forever, though they may seem like they will.
Do you ever think about your values in life and your roles or “hats” you wear, and the goals you would like to accomplish within each of those roles? Mindmapping is a great exercise to help you see the big picture. Jotting it down on a piece of paper works just as well!
